Happy Easter everybody! Just in time for us to experience a fantastic week of worship, all encouraged, perhaps you had time (on Sunday afternoon maybe?) to read read last week's cover story in Newsweek of about the decline of Christianity. I always respond to things like this by squinting my eyes and thinking "But... Our church is not dead... our church is quite alive."
I mean didn't we just celebrate an amazing season of Lent. Don't we regularly have dynamic worship services? Singing, sharing, laughing (in church - imagine). We care for one another, we respond to needs around us, we enjoy being people of faith within a community of faith. Our Church is not dead... we are quite alive!
Bruce Reyes-Chow, the moderator of our next General Assembly, has issued a challenge to us to think about those thing that are "alive" in our denomination. Check out this website to hear more.
He challenges us to submit responses to the questions, "How is the church alive?"
But for the purposes of our blog, comment back with your response... How is our church alive?

As more people have become empowered and more comfortable questioning Christianity, those of us that believe in its principles and live through its teachings, I feel, are stronger than ever. Although our numbers may be diminishing, I've discovered, especially recently, perhaps due to the economic climate and the shape the world is in, people of the Christian faith are rising up, becoming more vocal, are more open to express and discuss their views and find strength and comfort through their faith and in the company of like-minded people. I truly believe that as our society has drifted from its moral and idealogical center, we will be shifting back towards Christianity and wholesomeness. For many, it takes growing old and ackowledging the nearness of death; or perhaps recovering from an addiction after hitting 'rock bottom'. There's a reason they refer to accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior as being 'saved'. Everywhere you turn anymore, you'll find people questioning just where we are going. The further we venture off the path of righteousness, the faster we, as a society, will run to return to its comforts. The church is indeed, 'alive'. We don't demand that others accept our views. We choose to love them anyway. That's the kind of people I, personaly, choose to be around. Over the past several years, we have endured the assault on our religion, by local government, schools, etcetera, but as long as the strength of Christianity lies within its people, we shall always remain strong. As said and sung during Palm Sunday's service, we are the bread.
I'm trying to read the comments left from March, but have been unable to open them. Is there any way a new link can be created posting the old messages?
I didn't have a hard time getting the comments, are you still having difficulty?
